Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a dedicated, resilient, and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Middleton.
This is not a role for someone who simply wants to supervise pupils. We are looking for an individual who can take initiative, think on their feet, and confidently support young people with complex needs, challenging behaviours, and personal care requirements.
Every day presents new challenges and opportunities. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in helping pupils regulate emotions, develop independence, overcome barriers to learning, and achieve outcomes that genuinely change their lives.
If you thrive in a fast-paced specialist environment, can remain calm under pressure, and are committed to supporting vulnerable young people, we want to hear from you.
This well-established specialist secondary provision supports pupils with a range of complex needs, including:
The school provides a highly structured and nurturing environment where pupils receive personalised support to help them succeed both academically and socially.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils whose needs can be complex, unpredictable, and highly individual.
You will be expected to build strong professional relationships, recognise triggers, de-escalate challenging situations, and support pupils with their daily care needs while maintaining their dignity and independence.
This role requires someone who can confidently work using their own initiative, respond effectively to changing situations, and consistently provide a calm and positive presence for pupils who rely on routine, structure, and trusted adults.
We're looking for someone who isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and become a vital part of a pupil's journey.

✅ Experience supporting personal care needs or willingness to undertake training
✅ Ability to work independently and use initiative without constant direction
✅ Strong communication and relationship-building skills
✅ Resilient, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach
✅ Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations
✅ Genuine passion for supporting young people with complex needs
