Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate, resilient and nurturing Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil entering Year 8 at a welcoming secondary school in Newport.

The pupil has mixed social and emotional needs and has made an excellent transition into secondary school during Year 7. The school is now looking to appoint a full-time Teaching Assistant who can provide consistent, relationship-based support to help maintain this positive progress, both academically and emotionally.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who understands the importance of trust, patience and emotional regulation in helping young people thrive.

This role would particularly suit someone with experience or training in:

• Trauma-informed practice
• Wellbeing or nurture provision
• Counselling or mentoring
• Youth work
• Mental health support
• Social care or therapeutic settings
• Supporting children with social, emotional or behavioural needs

You will be someone who is calm under pressure, able to build strong professional relationships, and committed to helping a young person feel safe, understood and successful in school.

• Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day, adapting your approach to meet the pupil's individual social, emotional and learning needs.
• Build a positive, trusting relationship that promotes confidence, resilience and engagement with learning.
• Support the pupil to develop emotional regulation strategies and positive coping mechanisms using a calm and trauma-informed approach.
• Work closely with teaching staff, the school's pastoral team and SEN department to implement agreed support strategies.
• Encourage independence whilst providing reassurance and guidance when needed.
• Promote positive behaviour through proactive relationship-building and consistent routines.
• Monitor progress and communicate effectively with school staff to ensure the pupil continues to flourish.

We're keen to hear from candidates who have:

• Experience supporting children or young people with social, emotional or behavioural needs.
• A background in wellbeing, mentoring, counselling, youth work, education or care (desirable).
• Knowledge or experience of trauma-informed practice (highly desirable).
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their full potential.
