English as Additional Language Teaching Assistant (EAL TA) in South Manchester

Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit an EAL Teaching Assistant to work at a school in South Manchester on a short-term full-time temporary basis until the May half term (starting asap). The school is within easy access of public transport links and is reachable to anybody living within the South Manchester area or anyone who has access to a vehicle. The school has a very supportive SLT department that helps to make sure that each member of staff is fully supported throughout each day. The school has a high percentage of EAL students who primarily speak Urdu and Arabic as their first languages and require support in their learning throughout a variety of lessons.

A lot of the students have only recently moved to the UK and are yet to have a strong grasp on the English language and therefor find it difficult to integrate into the school system. We require a fluent speaker of Arabic and/or Urdu who would be able to help support students by translating and helping to ensure complete understanding of the tasks set to them and generally helping them throughout the school day.

Being in a school where you don’t speak the language (have a very loose grasp of the language) can be a very daunting experience and so the successful candidate should be a deeply empathetic person with a lot of patience and a warm and kind manner. You will ideally have experience of working within a secondary school setting prior, however experience within a primary setting can also be considered. You will also have experience of helping people who are in the process of learning English. You will either have, or be willing to apply for a Child Only DBS that is registered on the Update Service.

  • Pay: £83 - £93 per day depending on experience
  • Monday – Friday (8:15am – 3:30pm) from ASAP until May half-term with possibility of extending until the end of the school year and beyond.
  • Ofsted Outstanding school in South Manchester (close to transport links)
  • Need to speak either Urdu or Arabic (or both) as well as strong spoken and written English skills
