Teaching Personnel are working closely with a welcoming and values-driven faith-based secondary academy in Thornaby to recruit a Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant starting in September. The school has been praised by Ofsted as "very calm and orderly," with pupils consistently rising to high expectations around behaviour and conduct - making it a genuinely supportive environment to begin your career in education. The school is coeducational, serving pupils aged 11 to 16, and has a strong sense of community and belonging at its heart.

The Role

  • Support the delivery of engaging PE and sports-based lessons across key stages
  • Deliver targeted 1:1 and small group interventions to support student progress
  • Assist in promoting a positive, active, and inclusive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to support students with varying needs
  • Apply your sports knowledge and enthusiasm to motivate and inspire pupils
  • Support behaviour management and contribute to a focused, respectful classroom atmosphere
  • Help facilitate extracurricular sport and activity where opportunities arise

Who We’re Looking For

  • A Sports, PE, Sport Science, or related degree (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
  • A genuine passion for sport and working with young people
  • Confidence, enthusiasm, and a proactive, can-do attitude
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to maintain high expectations for behaviour and engagement
  • Previous school, coaching, or youth-based experience is desirable but not essential
  • An understanding of SEND needs (such as ASD, ADHD, or SEMH) is advantageous
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one, along with satisfactory background screening
