Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Sports Coach and PE Assistant for secondary schools across Durham, with positions available immediately. This is a coaching and activity-focused role rather than a formal teaching position — suited to someone with a strong sporting background who wants to work directly with young people, develop their skills, and contribute to the wider sporting life of a school.

You'll be working alongside PE staff, supporting curriculum lessons and leading extracurricular activities, coaching sessions, and school sport fixtures. For sports graduates or qualified coaches considering a move into education, this is an excellent entry point.

What the role involves:

• Supporting PE lessons across KS3 and KS4 alongside qualified teaching staff
• Leading and coaching extracurricular sports clubs, fixtures, and activities
• Working with students on a 1:1 and small group basis to develop sporting skills
• Encouraging participation, teamwork, and a positive attitude toward physical activity
• Supporting students with SEND or additional needs within a PE and sporting context
• Contributing to the wider school community through sport and enrichment activities

What we're looking for:

• A degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, or a related discipline — desirable
• Relevant coaching qualifications in one or more sports
• Experience working with young people in a coaching or sporting context
• Energetic, motivating, and confident working with secondary aged students
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
