Pay Rate: £85 – £100 per day

Supply Desk is seeking a positive, compassionate and dedicated Special School Assistant to join a forward-thinking and supportive specialist school in Southampton.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with young people with complex physical, health and learning difficulties. You will play an important role in helping pupils access learning, develop their independence and enjoy a safe, engaging and positive school experience.

The successful candidate will be caring, proactive and resilient, with the ability to work effectively as part of a wider team while also showing initiative and responding confidently to individual pupil needs.

  • Provide personalised support to pupils with complex physical, health and learning needs

  • Support pupils to access classroom activities and wider school experiences

  • Work alongside teachers and specialist staff to support individual learning and development

  • Encourage pupils to develop independence, confidence and communication skills

  • Support pupils with their social, emotional and personal development

  • Adapt activities and resources to meet individual needs

  • Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment

  • Follow individual support, care and learning programmes

  • Promote positive behaviour and meaningful engagement

  • Communicate effectively with teachers, colleagues and other professionals

  • Take initiative when responding to pupils' individual needs

  • Contribute to the wider life and positive ethos of the school

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable

  • Experience within a SEND, special school, care or education setting would be advantageous

  • Genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs

  • Patient, caring and empathetic approach

  • Positive, proactive and resilient attitude

  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Flexible approach with a willingness to learn specialist strategies

  • Good understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality

  • Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to obtain one
