Exciting Opportunity: SEN Teaching Assistant

Role Overview:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing tailored support and assistance to students with special educational needs, ensuring that they are fully included in all aspects of school life. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Individual Support: Working closely with students with special educational needs, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning difficulties, to provide one-to-one support and assistance tailored to their specific needs and abilities.

  2. Classroom Assistance: Supporting teachers in delivering lessons and activities, adapting materials and resources as necessary to meet the individual needs of students with SEN, and providing additional support to ensure their full participation and engagement in learning.

  3. Behavioural Support: Implementing behaviour management strategies and interventions to support students with SEN in managing their emotions, developing social skills, and promoting positive behaviour in the classroom and school environment.

  4. Personal Care: Assisting students with personal care tasks, such as toileting, dressing, and eating, as required, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and well-being at all times.

  5. Collaboration: Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other school staff to develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies, monitoring student progress and providing regular feedback on their development and achievements.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with students with special educational needs, preferably within a school or educational setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of different types of SEN, as well as strategies and interventions to support students with diverse needs and abilities.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience in working with students facing challenges, demonstrating a caring and compassionate approach to supporting their learning and development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the diverse needs of students and the school environment, prioritising their well-being and success.
