This provision caters for pupils with Autism and other associated conditions such as sensory processing disorders. Therefore, the school are looking for a SEN Support Assistant has experience supporting pupils who have sensory processing disorders.

Many of the learners in the school are at an early stage of developing their senses and learning how to use them effectively. Much of the learning that takes place for these children is based around a sensory approach which encourages and facilitates them using their senses. Using sight, sound, touch, taste and smell these learners develop an understanding of their world and begin to be able to show preferences. Therefore, as an SEN Support Assistant, you will be required to adopt an individual approach to suit the individual needs of each pupil.

Class sizes are between 4 and 6 pupils and they cater for a wide range of needs and provide an environment that is matched to pupils’ profiles. Most of the children exhibit challenging behaviour in some form and individuals with resilience to appropriately support this is essential. Some children who attend this school are non verbal and use communication aids to support this. All training is provided so a person who is willing to learn is essential for this position.

As these can be challenging environments to be successful you would ideally have experience in this sector and have worked with challenging individuals however this doesn’t necessarily have to be in a school setting and can be from care, residential, youth work, prison service, sports coaching etc!
