SEMH Teaching Assistant - Wantage

Are you a Psychology graduate eager to gain practical experience supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs?

A Secondary SEN School in Wantage is seeking a dedicated and caring SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role is ideal for aspiring Educational Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, Counsellors, Therapists, or Teachers who want to build valuable, hands-on experience working with students with a range of social, emotional, and mental health needs.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual students' needs.
  • Support students with emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and positive engagement in learning.
  • Help students develop positive relationships, social skills, independence, and coping strategies.
  • Work alongside teachers and SEN staff to create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment.

We're looking for an SEMH Teaching Assistant who is:

  • Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic about supporting young people.
  • A confident communicator with a genuine passion for SEMH and SEN.
  • Interested in gaining practical experience before pursuing a career in psychology, therapy, counselling, or education.
  • Calm, resilient, and able to remain consistent when supporting students who may display challenging behaviour.
  • Able to build strong, positive relationships with both students and colleagues.
  • Adaptable and willing to learn new strategies to support individual students.
