Are you experienced in education or support work and looking to build a long-term career in Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

We are recruiting Learning Support Assistants to support pupils with additional needs across specialist schools in Gloucester. These are long-term, classroom-based roles where you can develop your experience, gain funded qualifications, and make a genuine day-to-day difference.

This opportunity is ideal for individuals looking for stability, progression, and meaningful work within specialist education.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional support to access learning and feel settled in school.

You will support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them develop confidence, emotional regulation, and positive engagement in the classroom.

Pupils you support may have:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)
  • Autism (ASC), ADHD or communication needs
  • Anxiety, attachment needs or behavioural challenges
  • Sensory or learning differences

Some pupils may present behaviours that challenge, so confidence, patience and resilience are key in this role.

You will be placed within one of three specialist provisions:

  • GL19 - Secondary provision
  • GL1 - Primary and girls' secondary provision
  • GL2 - Girls-only secondary provision

You'll be working in well-resourced settings offering:

  • Small class sizes
  • Strong behaviour and pastoral support
  • Structured environments designed to help pupils succeed

  • Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups within the classroom
  • Assist with learning activities, behaviour support and routines
  • Build positive, consistent relationships with students
  • Support emotional regulation and engagement in learning
  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
  • Help maintain a calm, structured learning environment
  • Encourage independence, confidence and social development

We welcome applications from:

  • Behaviour mentors or SEMH support staff
  • Support workers, care workers or youth workers
  • Teaching Assistants or Learning Support Assistants
  • Graduates (Psychology, Education, Criminology) with relevant experience
  • Individuals with experience supporting children or young people in any setting

You do not need formal qualifications - the right attitude, resilience and willingness to learn are key.

  • Funded Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualifications
  • Ongoing CPD in SEN, behaviour and safeguarding
  • Clear progression within specialist education settings

  • Weekly pay via PAYE (no umbrella deductions)
  • Long-term, stable role with consistent hours
  • Supportive and experienced staff teams
  • Funded training and career development opportunities

  • Opportunity to transition into permanent school roles

  • Work in small classes where your support has real impact
