Mainstream Secondary Schools

I am recruiting Autism & SEND Support Assistants to work within mainstream secondary schools across Central and South Bristol.

These roles involve supporting students with a variety of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, communication needs, learning difficulties and EHCPs, helping them access education in a way that works for them.

Schools are looking for patient, proactive and understanding individuals who can build positive relationships, adapt support to meet individual needs and help students develop confidence both in and out of the classroom.

This is an incredibly rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference to a young person's educational experience.

As an Autism & SEND Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support
  • Help students access learning within mainstream lessons
  • Support students with Autism, ADHD and additional learning needs
  • Adapt activities and explanations to suit different learners
  • Encourage confidence, independence and self-advocacy
  • Support communication and social interaction skills
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and parents
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment
  • Help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential

You may work with students who have:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Dyslexia
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties
  • Sensory processing differences
  • EHCPs
  • Additional educational needs requiring targeted support

This role is primarily focused on supporting SEND needs, rather than behaviour-led intervention work.

We'd love to hear from candidates with backgrounds in:

  • SEND Support
  • Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
  • Teaching Assistant (TA)
  • Autism Support
  • Care and Support Work
  • Residential Childcare
  • Education Support
  • Psychology
  • Health & Social Care

  • Youth Support Services

Graduates and experienced support staff are both encouraged to apply.

We're seeking people who are:

✔ Patient and empathetic

✔ Excellent relationship-builders

✔ Adaptable and resilient

✔ Passionate about inclusive education

✔ Strong communicators

✔ Organised and proactive

✔ Committed to helping young people achieve success

✔ Comfortable supporting a range of additional needs

  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Understanding of SEND and inclusive practice
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and families
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

  • Make a genuine difference to students with additional needs
  • Work within supportive mainstream secondary schools
  • Gain valuable SEND-focused experience
  • Access training and CPD opportunities
  • Long-term opportunities with potential for permanent roles
  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement

If you're passionate about supporting students with Autism, ADHD and additional needs, I'd love to hear from you.
